Preparing for an Australian Summer
Australia is a land of beautiful beaches, sprawling outbacks, and large expanses of land bathed in the warmth of the sun. The summer can be a very tempting time for tourists to visit Australia but it can turn out to be a nasty experience if we aren’t prepared for it. Preparation and precaution are key to enjoy an Australian summer at its best!
As Australian having spent many a summer here, we have a few tips for travellers, international students, and immigrants to safely enjoy the summer in Australia. Here it goes,
- Use sunscreen generously!
The sun is very harsh in Australia due to a high content of UV rays. It is very easy to get a nasty sunburn. Purchase and use strong, water-resistant, and long-lasting sunscreens. Use the sunscreens generously.
- Drink lots of water
It is easy to get dehydrated during all the sporting, travelling and other activities we engage in during the summer. Drink lots of water and juices to keep yourself hydrated.
- Be careful on the beaches
Sharks, Jellyfish, and a lot of sea creatures call Australian beaches their home. A bite or sting from them can prove to be an unpleasant experience for everybody. Look around and keep an eye out for such creatures on the beach. In case of an emergency, call the lifeguard and ambulance immediately.
- Beware of unwelcome guests
Snakes, spiders, insects, and reptiles often roam the land carefreely. They can come as uninvited guests into your camping spots, cars, homes, or during your bushwalks. Be aware of your surroundings and watch out. Keep a first aid kit handy. In case of an emergency, call an ambulance immediately.
Keep these pointers in mind and you will have an excellent summer in this beautiful, scenic country! Happy summer everyone!
